We are no longer slaves to fear. There is a song out by Bethel called, "No Longer Slaves." Bethel focuses on the theme that we are no longer slaves to fear, mainly because of one gigantic fact: "I am a child of God."
When Jesus died on that cross, He completely destroyed the power of sin and death, and when we accept Him as our Lord and savior, we are made new in His power and grace. Because of that, we are free from every chain of our old flesh, rather it is anger, worry, lusts, depression, or even fear. The flesh has no power over us... unless we allow it to. Romans 8:28 says, "We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." I believe in God, but I also believe God. Every verse in the Bible is a promise. The last couple of weeks have been rough. We lost half our rent and are struggling financially, Courtney has had to stop babysitting (more loss of finances), and there has been a lot of tension between other people and myself. But, it has all been good. The loss of rent comes from a family member leaving our home, which we have been praying about due to some personal issues that we needed to separate from (praise God). We've long prayed for an end to Courtney having to babysit which God answered (praise God), and the tension between myself and others have been the result of Jesus speaking powerfully through His word and causing a great deal of conviction (praise God). All things may not seem good in the midst of the struggle, but the joy comes from knowing Christ is the one shepherding these events. If we really choose to believe God's word, then we can understand from Romans 8:28 that though not all things are or seem good, God can use all things (even the bad ones) for our good. That means that rather then being upset, worried, or fearful over our circumstances, we can simply go before the Lord in prayer and walk in peace, knowing that He WILL provide. After all, that is the beauty of being in Christ: Freedom. Freedom from worry, freedom from guilt, and freedom from shame, if we walk in His ways. The Lord God doesn't always come early with our needs, all wrapped in a shiny bow, but He does always come through in perfect timing. On many occasions however, in His infinite wisdom, God allows us to be put through trials and tests, so that our faith may be strengthened and that in the end, we may lack nothing... Don't believe me? Read James 1:2-5. "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." God is good folks, and His ways are perfect. When we allow our situation to be defined by His ability, not ours, then we are truly free in all things. So take a breath, better yet, take it to the Father, and trust Him to provide for your every need. Go, and be blessed.
